"There’s a fine line between truth and lies;
Jesus Christ never lied, still was crucified.”-A$AP Rocky
The meaning of this to me is that it’s hard to be totally truthful to people because being truthful isn’t what gets us celebrated, people are really looking to hear what they want. Jesus Christ only spoke the truth, and he was persecuted, even killed for his teachings. This is probably one of the most moving lyrics I’ve ever listened to, because I think we all struggle as society to really be true to ourselves, because we’re scrutinized for saying what others don’t want to hear, even though it might be a truth to us. Even beyond that, when an artist expresses their true thoughts, people always get upset and condemn them for it. Not only artists, but philosophers, scientists, anyone who really finds a way to step out of society’s boundaries of what we’re expected to be hardwired into thinking.
Yet, the people that were told they were wrong or weird or that they would never measure up are the ones we still remember now. Jesus Christ, Albert Einstein, Galileo, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Picasso, so many more took society forward, made progress for the rest of humanity to leap forward with. The people who settled with exactly what everyone told them and regurgitated those words, standards, and lifestyles are too numerous to be commemorated. We all want to be loved and accepted right now, but we don’t want to be the people who change things for the better. It’s hard to find that balance, the point where you can make change and still find acceptance. Sometimes it never happens. You always will have people to disagree with you no matter what you do, and sometimes those will be the people you thought you could depend on the most. But if you care enough, about your truths, about your identity, about your expression, it will be worth it. Maybe you don’t totally change society, but if you can make a difference to at least one person, you will be remembered, even if it is only that one person, and that’s enough, because one person is still an impact.
Not everyone knows how to find themselves, find their beliefs, find their thing that makes a change. And not everyone really lives their life to the fullest. The difference between those who live and those who don’t is that the people who are living are living life as themselves. There’s no other way to do it and still be succesful.
